How does cooking mode work?

Cooking mode walks you through a recipe step-by-step with timers, optional voice narration, and an AI assistant that answers questions while your hands are mess

Cooking mode walks you through a recipe step-by-step with timers, optional voice narration, and an AI assistant that answers questions while your hands are messy.

Start cooking

  1. Open any recipe (from your plan, favorites, or search).

  2. Tap Cook at the bottom of the recipe.

The screen switches into a focused cooking view.

Move through steps

  • Swipe left and right to navigate between steps.

  • Tap the step to mark it complete.

  • The screen stays awake while cooking mode is active so the timer doesn't pause.

Built-in timers

If a step says "simmer for 8 minutes" or "rest for 5 minutes," cooking mode picks that up and offers a one-tap timer. The timer alerts you with sound and haptics, even if Gust is in the background.

Voice narration

Tap the speaker icon at the top to have steps read aloud. Useful when your hands are wet or floury.

Audio works in the background β€” leave Gust running and put your phone on the counter.

Ask the AI assistant

Stuck on a step? Hit Ask and type or speak a question:

  • "Can I substitute olive oil for butter here?"

  • "How do I know it's done?"

  • "What temperature should the oven be?"

The assistant answers in context with the recipe's other steps.

Log the meal when you're done

When you finish the last step, Gust prompts you to log the meal. Doing so updates your daily protein and calorie totals, and (if leftovers exist) offers to slot them into upcoming meals.

Still need help?

If a recipe doesn't have a Cook button or timers don't fire, tap Contact Support with the recipe name.
